ABSTRACT

This paper examined the roles of teachers as para-counsellors and their enhancement for effective counselling, ethical and professional consideration. The paper discussed about a professional counsellor and qualities of a good counsellor. It also takes a look at professional ethics in counselling, the need for enhancing the efficacy of para-counsellors, i.e guidance and counselling masters in secondary schools for ethical and professional practices. The paper concluded that the need to enhance the efficacy of the para-counsellors or the school guidance and counselling masters becomes inevitable to meet up with the inadequate number of counsellors to help in curbing common social problems among the students. As a way forward, the paper suggested that because of inadequate trained counsellors, school management and administrators should not just place any teacher in the position of a guidance and counselling master, but where there is need to employ the services of an ordinary school teacher, experienced ones  should be considered.  In addition the paper suggested that teachers assigned as guidance and counselling masters be given capacity building training in guidance and counselling so as to give them basic knowledge, techniques and skills in the counselling task.

ABSTRACT

The study investigated family background and provision of literacy materials on academics performance primary pupils in ogbadibo local government Area of Benue State three research questions and hypothesis were raised. The study adopted a survey research design and the study population was 1500 pupils drawn from 30 primary schools in the study area. A sample of 230 pupils was drawn from 10 primary schools was used to draw data. The instrument for data collection was a self-constructed questionnaire. The instruments were subjected to face validation by three experts in measurement and evaluation with a reliability index of 0.82 calculated using Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. The instrument was administered to 230 pupils and data collected was analysed using simple percentages to answer the research questions while chi-square test of goodness of fit was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings from the study showed that parent educational background have no significant influence on pupils academic performance. Also family size have no significant influence on primary pupil’s academic performance, it was also reviewed that family type has no significant influence on primary pupil’s academic performance. The researcher recommended that, the readiness of the learner, motivation from the parents and school environment should be look into for better academic performance of the pupils.

ABSTRACT

The present study was designed to investigate the problems faced by students in Learning of English at Northern Nigerian Secondary school. The study was limited to public secondary school in Sokoto State of Nigeria. It was observed that in recent times the governments provided a lot of facilities including free training programs for the teachers at secondary level but the Teaching and learning of English is not up to mark. Eighty (80) participants were used for the study which includes 40 male and 40 female. Questionnaires were administered to students. Outcome of the analysis shows that teachers had no proper training of teaching English, proper facilities were not provided and curriculum was not according to the needs of students. These reasons hindered the teaching and learning process of English.

ABSTRACT

This research evaluates the misuse of English prepositions among Hausa learners of English. English is today’s Lingua Franca, and its evolution is driven by the current demands for information and the need for global communication. This research aim to focuses on misuse of English prepositions among Hausa learners of English. A total number of fifty (50) questionnaires were given and received from the NCE 1 students of Department of English Language, FCE Kontogora. The questionnaires were analyzed based on the respondents. Despite the common notion that Hausa affects the use of English prepositions, the study revealed that most of the errors are intralingua errors that originate from the target language, English

ASTRACT

An electronic and magnetic properties of Al full heusler alloy was investigated in this paper Using the SPRKKR Greens function we investigated the detailed electronic structure of Cobalt based heusler alloys in  CrAl , of both ordered and disordered state. Density functional theory was used within PBE-GGA Approximation. L21 Ordered Al shows 100% spin polarization within all the approximations, the half metallicity is also observed in YZ disordered state and experimentally obtained values of the magnetic moments are obtained by reducing the symetry. The exchange coupling between Co and Cr causes the variation in structural and magnetic properties. Obtained half metallic properties are mainly because of hybridizations between Co and Cr elements

ABSTRACT

Soil contaminated with heavy metals is poor in nutrients and contribute to sub-optimal plant biomass accumulation. Soil, whether in urban or rural areas, represent a major sink for metals released into the environment from a variety of activities. Some of the metals will persist because of their immobile nature; others will be more mobile migrating to either ground water or plants.  Samples were collected using stratified random sampling method. Each sampling area was divided into ten smaller units and from each unit; ten (10) samples were collected randomly at an average depth of 10-15 cm, the sample were mixed and homogenized. The following metals were analysed Cu, Cr, Cd,Pd, Co,Ni and Zn the result obtained showed that correlation is significant at 5% level.

Effect of Dynamic Geometry Software on Male and Female student’s Achievement in Geometry in Nasarawa State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT

This paper reports on data taken from a gender study of senior secondary school one students in Nasarawa State on learning aspects of geometry using dynamic geometry software. Dynamic geometry software promises direct manipulation of geometrical objects and relations. This paper reports aspects of a research study deigned to examine the impact of using such software on male and female student conceptions. Analysis of the data from the study indicates that, while the use of dynamic geometry software can assist students in making progress towards more mathematical explanation (thereby provide a foundation on which to build further notions of deductive reasoning in mathematics), the ‘dynamic’ nature of the software influences the form and explanation, especially in the early stages. The focus for the analysis is the students’ evolving mathematical explanations as they tackle problems involving the construction of various quadrilaterals. The use of dynamic geometry software can assist students in making progress towards more mathematical explanation (and thereby provide a foundation on which to build further notions of deductive reasoning in mathematics), and the ‘dynamic’ nature of the software influences the form of explanation, especially in the early stages. This underlines the vital role of the teacher in ensuring that the students’ ability to devise explanations moves from reasoning to more general mathematical language.

ABSTRACT

In this paper the daily sunshine duration is used to estimate average global solar radiation for Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. The daily sunshine hour were measured for five years from which the monthly mean values were determined. Angstrom model was then used to estimate the global solar radiation based on the monthly mean sunshine hour. The value of solar radiation for Maiduguri town vary from the range of  under the period of this research with the mean value of  .
