ABSTRACT

The consequences of applying Ordinary Least Squares to a relationship with autocorrected disturbances are qualitatively similar to those already derived for the heteroscedastic case, namely unbiased but inefficient estimation and invalid inference procedures. As in the case of heteroscedasticity, in the presence of autocorrelation, the Ordinary Least Square estimators are still linear unbiased as well as consistent and asymptotically normally distributed, but they are no longer efficient (ie, minimum variance). In the case of heteroscedasticity, we distinguish two cases and the possible cause and sources of autocorrelation. The violation of the assumptions of normality may have significant consequences in applying Ordinary Least Squares and such consequences include substantial loss in efficiency, inflating the precision or accuracy of the estimators by underestimating the standard error of β. Moreover, violating of the assumptions of normally of the error term is important in econometric analysis. If this assumption is violated, then the basis of hypothesis testing breaks down. In this direction, a large number of possible tests for normality and robust estimator have been suggested. The assumption of lack of autocorrelation or serial correlation of the error term implies that the disturbance covariance at all possible pairs of observation points are zero. Violation provides the basis of for this research because it affects the consistency of the Ordinary Least Square estimators. Models with such disturbances are widespread, as applied econometrics especially in modeling of economic data.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, samples of chili and tomato were used to focus on performance comparison between open air drying and inside a PV powered solar dryer. The hourly system performance of the PV powered solar dryer has been measured for several days in Damaturu (Latitude: 11.74700 N, Longitude: 11.96620 E), Yobe state – Nigeria and the drying efficiency was calculated on the basis of weight change, drying time, heat gain and moisture removal. The results obtained showed that the dryer efficiency are 15% and 16% for tomato and chili respectively, while for open air drying the efficiency was found to be 10% and 13% for tomato and chili respectively. These results showed vast difference between open drying and drying inside a PV powered solar dryer. Thus, base on these results it can be concluded that the dryer is more efficient way of preserving vegetables food than the open air drying.

ABSTRACT

Library is a knowledge store that is indispensable to the success of any functional education. Education without the services of a library is half-baked and can only produce narrow minded individuals who would not be productive to their communities. The literatures on library and information science indicates that Libraries started off as store houses, where books were more preserved than utilized and librarians acted like custodians and their interaction with users were minimal. Later on there was a shift in all components of library system, especially the users, the services and the staff as a result of information communication technology. Effectiveness of library services now largely depends upon the Information and Communication Technology (ICT).The advent of digital computer, telecommunication and audiovisual technologies has opened up new ways of collecting, organizing and disseminating scientific and technical information. Therefore, in a bit to justify that ICTs plays a central and critical role in library operation, this paper attempts to give reasons for libraries using ICTs, highlight the impacts of ICT on librarianship as well as identify the modern technologies used in the libraries. Problems inhibiting the deployment of ICT infrastructure and facilities in Nigerian libraries and the way forward were identified and discussed.

ABSTRACTS

The aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between management style and staff performance in Federal Polytechnic Bali Library (FPBL) Taraba state-Nigeria. Four objectives of the study were raised to investigate the relationship between management style and staff performance in FPBL .To investigates the management style of library manager in federal polytechnic Bali library. To investigate the existing relationship between the manager and the staff of federal polytechnic Bali library, To examine the style employ in the effective channels of communication and the relationship between manager and the staff of FPBL and to investigate the motivational style use to encourage staff performance of FPBL. This study will be useful to libraries in carrying out managerial activities. It will be helpful to librarians of similar organisations such as information centres. It will equally be useful to improve the relationship between the super-ordinate and subordinate in the FPBL. This study has been conducted to help researchers in the area of management on personnel performance. This study is expected to provide additional literature on FPBL for future researchers. Using a survey design and random sampling method, with a well-structured questionnaire, to the library staff was used to investigate the relationship between management style and staff performance. The conceptual framework used was the content theory of motivation-hygiene theory by Fredrick Herzberg (1959). Despite this theory now been of some age, it remains relevant for use in this current study. Data were collected from 100 respondents comprising of all staff of FPBL that constituted sample for the study. The study reveals that the Staff of the FPBL was not satisfied with the motivational style for staff in the library, nor the management style employed in the library, and generally the staffs of the FPBL was not happy with the style employed in channels of effective communication in the library. It was recommended that the library management of FPBL should encourage staff by offering positive incentives; the management of FPBL should consider the employment of appropriate management style to encourage staff performance is fundamental. The management of FPBL should employ various motivational styles which can encourage staff to improve their performance.
