ABSTRACT

The paper looked into National Policy on Education (FRN, 2013) stated that educational goals shall be clearly set out in terms of their relevance to the needs of the society i.e. the strategic repositioning of education in order to respond to the needs, interest and abilities of the learners for the good of the society. It is in this regard that the National Policy on Education (FRN, 2013) spelled out that teacher education shall continue to take cognizance of changes in methodology and in the curriculum and that teachers shall be regularly exposed to innovations in the professions; through a collaborated effort of the Ministries of Education, Science and Technology, Education Tax Fund (Olu, 2004). Olu further mentioned that the aim of School Net Nigeria is to create communities of educators and learners who use ICT to enhance education within and beyond Nigeria. The problems, issues, challenges and possible solutions were thoroughly discussed, recommendation and conclusion were made.

ABSTRACT

This paper on Leadership, Corruption and Governance in Nigeria argues that of all the problems, challenges and crises militating against Nigeria’s quest for socio-politico-economic development, the most daunting appear to be ineffective leadership, untamed and seemingly untamable corruption and bad governance. The paper examines the concept of leadership in all its ramifications, compares and contrasts the various known types/styles of leaderships, with a view to adumbrate the trajectory of an efficacious leadership modus operandi capable of supplementing and complementing the relentless efforts aimed at finding solutions to Nigeria’s myriad problems. The paper also examines the enigmatic nature of corruption in Nigeria, the various types of corrupt practices at Local, State, National and Non-governmental levels and makes recommendations on tackling the menace of corruption in the country. Finally, the paper focuses attention on barometers of good governance, which if implemented to the latter will is hope to cultivate a modus Vivendi for Nigerians to safe Nigeria, undoubtedly from hitting the ‘Road to Kigali,’ governance morass, economic chaos, social pandemonium, political hullabaloo and immobilism. The paper advises the followers/citizens/residents to play their own part/role of efficient performance of obligatory and non-obligatory civic duties.

ABSTRACT

Attempts at modifying people’s environmental attitude need to be directed to students in the formal education sector because the foundations of pre-adult attitude toward the environment are formed during childhood, this outcome govern behaviour throughout adult life.  This study, determinedPre-theoretic intuition quiz, Puzzle-based critical thinking motivation strategies, gender and cognitive style as predictors of students’ attitude toward environmental concepts in biology. The pretest-posttest, control group, quasi-experimental design with 3x2x2 factorial matrix was adopted. Four hundred and fifty one SS2 students from nine purposively selected senior secondary schools in three local government areas of Oyo State were used for the study. The schools were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups and the study lasted sixteen weeks. Six instruments used for data collection were: Teachers Instructional Guides for teachers using the two treatments and control group; Students Environmental Attitude Scale. (r= 0.81), Cognitive Style Test (test-retest r= 0.81) and Assessment Sheet for the research assistants. Four null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and graphs. There was significant main effect of treatment on students’ environmental attitude (F(2,450) = 287.32; p<0.05), Pre-Theoretic Intuition Quiz had the highest practices scores enhanced attitude scores ( =64.34) than Puzzle-Based learning ( =57.81) and Modified Conventional group ( = 48.97). There was significant interaction effect of cognitive style and sex on students’ environmental attitude scores (F (1,450) = 6.61; p<0.05). Pre-theoretic intuition quiz and Puzzle-based learning strategies are effective in improving students’ attitude toward a sustainable environmental development, taking into cognizance the cognitive style and gender of students.

ABSTRACT

The study investigated relationship between supervisor’s role perception and teacher’s job performance in Adamawa state primary schools. Four objectives and four null-hypotheses guided the study. Fourteen (14) supervisors and Fifty (50) teachers constituted the population of the study. Two set of questionnaires were used. Test-retest method of reliability was adopted and found with a reliability index of 0.05. The statistical techniques employed ranged from chi-square to Pearson product moment correlation coefficient, were applied to the data generated. It was discovered from the study that, there was significant difference among supervisors in their level of role perception, like wise among the teachers on how they perceive supervisors and there was no significant relationship between supervisor’s role perception and teacher’s job performance. Based on the result obtained, recommendations were made.

ABSTRACT

The economic development of any nation is a very important issue, as it indicates its position in the Committee of Nations. Nigeria, as a nation designed her vision which is tagged Vision 20:2020 to stimulate the economy of the nation and to attain her aspirations of being one of the top twenty (20) leading economies of the world by the year 2020. This paper focuses on the feminine gender issues as a challenge to the attainment of the Vision 20:2020. The paper towards its conclusion looks at violence against women in a number of human endeavours. The inequalities are in education and agriculture, gender status and gender based violence.

ABSTRACT

The  study  examined  the  concept  of  curriculum   as  total  experience  of  pupils/students contact with the school which will eventually change their behaviour. As society is dynamic also our educational aims and objectives has to change to meet the changing society. This paper therefore examined curriculum reform as regard the nine years basic challenge as well as what the national policy on education say about it. The counselor is a professional who has the skills of helping people in undertaking their situation. His role and status as a professional  were highlighted and his challenges in the implementation  plan of nine years basic  education   were  also  discussed;   specifically   in  providing   orientation   programme. Coping with student’s adjustment problems, career counseling, students counseling against students unrest, students appraisal and students involvement in school activities etc.

FEMALE – CHILD EDUCATION: A CRITICAL ISSUE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIAN

E-mail: yahyamagaji@gmail.com

ABSTRACT

If you educate a female then you have successfully educated a nation, goes the sayings: so female – child education has become a contemporary issue to nations in the world because girls/women are usually discriminated against in all spheres of life including education. It is based on this, that this paper examines the female – child marginalization and with unequal access to education compared to male counterpart. The study reveals that cultural practices serve as hindrance to female-child education and that inaccessibility of the female – child education  makes  vulnerable  diseases  such  as  HIV/AIDS,  early  marriage,  denial  of fundamental rights and child labour. The paper concluded that if female-child education is fostered, she will be self-reliant, adequately socialize and well empowered to contribute meaningfully  to  the  community  as  well  as  skills  of  problems  solving  to  an  appreciable extent. The paper therefore recommends that education should be made accessible to the female-child  at  all  levels  and  awareness  programme  should  be  mounted  to  redeem  the image of the female-child to make the world a better place for her to live.

ABSTRACT: A mathematical model for fixed bed adsorption column was developed and solved numerically by implicit backward Euler finite difference method. The model was simulated using MATLAB R2012a. The paper was able to consider the design and the operation of fixed bed adsorption column for the removal of water contaminants from industrial wastewater in a concise manner, having been able to obtain the breakthrough curve. The parametric study carried out on the model revealed that smaller bed porosity reduces the solute residence time in the bed and consequently increases the adsorption rate and that decrease in particle diameter decreases the breakthrough time. However, increase in flow rate increases the adsorbate concentration ratio more rapidly. The observations recorded in this study agree excellently with the general observations in other literatures of similar works. Hence, the developed model is suitable and applicable to study the fixed bed adsorption column performance under isothermal conditions.
