ABSTRACT: Due to high rate of examination malpractices, prostitution, drop-outs and vices
in our tertiary institution today, one is force to look for alternative way of reducing such
societal ills through effective career counseling system. Online career counseling system has
emerged as a viable alternative to conventional counseling system. There are limitations to
the existing career counseling approaching in Nigeria. To address these shortcomings, we
have developed online career counseling suitable for deployment in any system connected to
a network (intranet, internet). The research work commenced with a study and overview of
career counseling. The different counseling approaches were surveyed. Some existing webbased
counseling system were examined with their applicability and limitation to our peculiar
environment noted. Based on our findings, a Online Career Counseling was developed to
provide career counseling to candidates on the suitability or otherwise of their chosen career.
The key factors identified and used in evaluating the candidate’s suitable for a chosen career
include: his academic achievement, his personal attributes. Most of the existing online career
storage techniques rely on relation model and relational database technologies for these
tasks. The mis-match of the rigid 2D tables of relational model jeopardizes the scalability of
such repositories and frequently renders a repository inefficient for some types of data and
queries. We have proposed a system that can store data in the XML repository. The model
was finally implemented as a web-based system using baby web as web server, ASP as the
server-side scripting language, HTML 5.0 as client-side scripting language and XML as the
relational database

Department of Educational Foundations
Federal College of Education, Yola
ABSTRACT:

The paper identified two challenges to the management of secondary schools in the Northern Senatorial Zone of Adamawa State. It then examined the strategies for
the effective management of the schools. Two purposes of the study were outlined. Two research questions were formulated to guide the study. The area of the study was the
Northern Senatorial Zone of Adamawa. The Zone comprised 5 Local Government Areas, namely, Mubi North, Mubi South, Maiha, Michika and Madagali. A structured
questionnaire, developed by the researcher and validated by 3 experts in educational management, was pilot tested on 22 respondents using the test re-test method of
estimating reliability. The two tests were separated by a space of 2 weeks. The two results were correlated and the Pearson r was 0.87. The instrument was then administered on a sample of 474 respondents, made up of 302 teachers and 172 administrators. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that yearly plan of staff needs, term plan for students’ feeding and term plan for materials were
among the 13 strategies for effective planning of school activities. The findings showed that organizing materials into buildings, laboratories and workshops, organizing human
beings into schools, committees and classes; and organizing ideas and principles into curricular activities, and time schedules are effective organizing strategies in secondary
school management. The study however, did not consider that publicising the school was necessarily an effective strategy for secondary school management. To enhance school
administrators’ management skills, the study recommended among others, that school administrators need to undertake refresher courses so as to update their knowledge and
skills; government needs to provide a conducive school environment so that administrators can functionally utilize their knowledge and skills, and teachers must give maximum support to administrators in their effort to provide effective leadership in the
schools.

on Energy Concept (CPIPEC) in Ekiti State. The CPIPEC was assessed by 152 upper basic technology teachers using the teacher feedback questionnaire (TFQ). The results revealed
that there was significant difference in the assessment of CPIPEC between male and female upper basic technology teachers with tcal(2.051), which was greater than ttab (1.96). The
means of 69.91 and 74.27 with tcal (3.996) and ttab (1.96) revealed that there was significant difference in CPIPEC assessment between rural and urban area upper basic technology
teachers. From the findings, it was discovered that CPIPEC had been adjudged a welcome innovation, and relevant recommendations on the fact that Federal Government should
provide adequate facilities to encourage the use of computers in schools were made especially in rural areas.

ABSTRACT
Education is the true manifestation of human development in any society. Therefore, Nursery
Education at the lower level has positive impact on the child in later life which should not be
neglected in the hands of few individuals who are not professionally skilled in the field. The
National Policy on Education has spelt out some of the objectives and government commitment
to encourage private individuals has yielded little or no concern in the implementation of the
National Policy of Education. Nursery schools now have been proliferated for commercial
ventures. The policy control and how nursery schools can be rescored were extensively
discussed.

which allowed the study of events after it had taken place. Ten (10) secondary schools were randomly selected and relevant data and information were collected with the use of
questionnaire. To determine the validity of the instrument, it was trial-tested on the female teachers’ in Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria. The test-re-test method using Pearson Product Moment

recommendations were made that the Government should fund the production and utilisation
of instructional media.
