ABSTRACT

This study is reviewed various but few literature on the role of commercial banks in the development of agricultural sector of Nigeria economy. The data for this paper is made up of literature on importance of commercial banks to the development of Agricultural sector they were all secondary data from various journals and textbooks. It was concluded that a more robust agricultural sector will provide the needed employment to our teeming population and also recommended that government should help to provide farm inputs such as fertilizer mechanization etc in other to increase farmer’s productivity in the country.

The Determinants of Dividend Payout among Listed Banks in Nigeria

ABSTRACT

This study examines the determinants of dividend payout among Nigerian listed companies in the banking sector. The problem statement was to find out whether the predictor variables (EPS, ROI, NAT, GIT and TAX) have any significant influence on the dependent variable (Dividend Payout). The data used in this research work were sourced from the annual report and financial statements of the five selected quoted banks examined in this study, ranging from year 2001-2010. The data analysis was based on the multiple regression analyses, which measures the correlation and coefficient of determination between the dependent variable (Dividend payout) and the predictor variables. The results revealed that the correlation between the dividend payout and the independent variables (combined) did not have significant influence in determining dividend payout among the selected quoted banks, as the P – VALUE (0.228) of F-test was greater than 5% significance level, and the coefficient of determination (R²) only accounted for 0.14% of the independent variables which was not statistically significant. From the model specified in this study, it was obvious that only Earnings Per Share and Corporate Tax show a positive value, which therefore means that an increase in either of this two variables holding other independent variables constant would increase dividend payout ratio by the same value. Since EPS measures the profitability and growth of an organization, it was however recommended that this should be given topmost attention by ensuring that the wealth of shareholders are maximized, because Nigerian firms not only use dividend payout policy to signal their quality, but also to signal their future prospects.

ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurship education is an important issue in National Development. The paper therefore examines the roles of entrepreneurship education in National Development. It focuses on the role of entrepreneurship education on undergraduate students in the national development. Structure entrepreneurship readiness questionnaire was used to elicit responses from respondents who were undergraduates. Hypothesis was stated and with the aid of test of proportion, it was found that Entrepreneurship Education imparts entrepreneurship skills and attitudes to students as well as disposes them towards establishing their own business. By so doing, it will empower them to contribute immensely and positively towards economic development. The paper recommends that government should provide a starting financial support to complement this initiative of entrepreneurship education. Stakeholders, non-governmental organizations and well established entrepreneurs and others are to come together in networks to create an enabling environment for job opportunities in which entrepreneurship can flourish.

Effect of Entrepreneurship Education on Entrepreneurial Intention among Nigeria Universities Students

ABSTRACT

One of the serious challenges facing Nigeria today is the youth unemployment with the ripple effect of their resort to violent crimes. This paper examined the effect of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial intention among universities’ students in Nigeria. Structured questionnaire was employed to collect data from one hundred and five (105) respondents through purposive sampling method. Linear regression was used with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to analyze the data collected in order to determine the effect of independent variable (entrepreneurship education) on dependent variable (entrepreneurial intention). The result showed that entrepreneurship education is a major source of inspirational trigger that positively impact on entrepreneurial intention. However, the result has a valuable implication for policy makers in higher education, school administrators and educators. It was therefore, recommended that for a nation to achieve meaningful and sustainable economic development adequate attention must be given to wide spread of economic activities through entrepreneurship education in our tertiary institutions. 

Impact of Modern Office Technology on Secretarial Performance in Public and Private Sector Environment in Nigeria

ABSTRACT

The influx of modern office technology and information systems has greatly transformed secretarial duties in both public and private organizations in the 21^st century. Modern office technology and information systems have led to great changes in the role of secretaries in office occupation. Nigeria, as an emerging economy, needs modern secretaries if it is to achieve its economic goal. The importance of an office in the development of an economy cannot be overstressed. Thus, the focus of this paper is to ex-ray the impact of certain modern office technology on secretarial performance. The paper concludes among others that Specialized training programme should be organized for secretaries to enable them update their knowledge on modern office technologies, computing, communication and modern methods of data management in other to improve their proficiency and efficiency on the job and hence higher productivity in the workplace.

Big Five Personality Traits and Job Involvement among Teachers

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the big five personality traits as predictors of job involvement among teachers. One hundred and seventeen (117) teachers comprising 31 males and 86 females between 24 to 10 years were drawn from five government secondary schools in Enugu using Multi-stage sampling. John, Dondhue and Kentte (1991) 44 – item big five personality traits inventory and Lodahl and Wegner (1965) 20-item job involvement scale were administered. The study was a cross-sectional survey. Regression analysis revealed that big five personality traits jointly predicted job involvement at p<.05. The findings also revealed that extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness independently predicted job involvement at P <. 05 while agreeableness and neuroticism did not. It was concluded that in order to enhance the job involvement of teachers, candidates high on extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness should be considered during selection and placement of teachers.

ABSTRACT

Management is the process of designing an environment in which individuals working together in groups efficiently accomplishes selected goals. The most valuable capital is human capital and the most powerful technology is people. Human Capital Management is that functional management process which involves attracting, developing and maintaining a talented and energetic workforce to support organizational mission, objectives and strategies. The methodology used by researchers of this paper was a theoretical approach through a descriptive studies and analysis. The researchers used secondary sources of data collection. It was discovered that HR do confront challenges of workforce diversity, globalization and technological advances in the discharge of their responsibilities. Hence recommended effective cross-cultural training of HR practitioners and flexibility of human resource strategies.

ABSTRACT

Northern Nigeria amongst other regions has witnessed high level of insecurity with its resultant effect on business survival and sustainable development. This has made national security threat to be a major issue for the government and has prompted huge allocation of the national budget to security. Security just like other elements in the business environment enhances and optimizes business activities but insecurity hinders these activities and so it constitutes a threat to business organizations and their survivals. This paper examined the insecurity in Northern Nigeria and its implication for business survival and sustainable development. The sources and causes of insecurity were examined through the methodology of evaluation using secondary data. The researcher presented attacks by Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria from 2009 to 2013. The paper further examined the conceptual perspective of insecurity, Business survival and Sustainable development and as well the functional areas of business that are likely to be affected as s result of insecurity. Detail analysis of the way- out to curb the effect of insecurity on business and to enhance sustainable development in Nigeria was outlined. Issues raised include provision of good leadership, good governance and value re-orientation. The paper concludes that insecurity poses a great threat to business organizations and its survival; hence this menace may affect the realization of becoming the 20 most developed countries by the year 2020. Recommendations were given which include the need for government to be more proactive in security management, intelligence gathering and surveillance. Business Organizations should be socially responsible and individuals need to be security cautious.
