ABSTRACT

The paper is an assessment of the impact of work family interface on quality of worklife of selected bank employees in Port Harcourt. Past and extant work-family research have often suggested that the effective management of the interface between work and domestic life remains a central challenge for employer and employees across institutional contexts. Quality of work life which allows for union activities are frowned at in the banks. It follows that the prevailing provision, for quality of worklife are unfavourable for the achievement of customer satisfaction, excellences shared ambitions and tenacity of bank reforms. Three variables each from quality of worklife of bank staff (QWLBS) and three from work-family interface of bank staff (WFIBs)were carefully decoded, classified using factor analysis with all the rating data on different attributes and reduced down to a few important dimensions. The study revealed that external variables affect the condition of work-family interface and quality of worklife in the studied banks. The study further recommends that socio-cultural variable should be taken into consideration in designing both the technical and social components of jobs.

AFRICAN CULTURE AND MIGRATION IN CONTEMPORARY TIME

Leonard C. Opara, Bolaji Musa Agunbiade & Ajobiewe Jamiu Olatunji

ABSTRACT

African has a long history in terms of population mobility both regionally and internationally. Over the years African people have migrated in response to demography, economic, political and other factors, including environmental disasters and conflicts; Africa migration has been intra and inter (internal) movements of people within the region; movement of people from outside the region into the African continent and otherwise. The migrants have always considered the various sub-regions as single economic units within which trade in goods and services flourish. But more importantly intra-regional migration sustained by poverty, economic recession and the consequences of macroeconomic adjustment measures. The paper shall examine the impact of culture in African migration and the dominant trend of internal migration in recent times for economic purpose. It shall recommend that the import of migration of our intellectuals to other continent in search of economic power has reduced our empowerment and in promoting our African cultures and thus promoted neo-colonization in Africa. Furthermore, the migration of rural to urban areas is the hallmark of decency in our traditional heritage as it relates to culture and cultural values, conflicts, norms in our contemporary society by the future generation.

ABSTRACT

The pluralistic nature of the Nigeria society is meant to be a factor that can enhance peaceful coexistence among the people. In the recent times, religion, instead of shaping and producing responsible adherents, has been a major cause of unrest in Nigeria. This is due to lack of proper religious education, hence religious intolerance. This paper seeks to emphasize the need for proper and effective religious education which can invariably curb the religious intolerance in Nigeria. This is done by considering the causes of religious intolerance and the roles of religious education in Nigeria. Finally, it is recommended that religious education should be encouraged since it is a panacea to the problem of religious intolerance in Nigeria and religious leaders should review the content of their religious education to reflect the present needs of the Nigeria nation.
